STAINLESS STEEL

RECTANGULAR, FLAT BARS

MTS stocks Stainless Steel (SS) Flats (rectangular) bars in the following grades: 303,  304/304L, 316/316L grades (extruded flats and/or cut from plate).

In addition,  MTS carries SS Flats for High Engineered and Aerospace applications including 17-4 PH, 15-5PH and 13-8 Mo (extruded flats and/or cut from plate).

Stainless steel, also known as Inox steel or Inox from French "inoxydable", is a steel alloy with a minimum of 10.5% to 11% chromium content by mass. Balance contains levels of nickel, molybdenum, and niobium.

SS resist to corrosion, however it is not fully stain-proof. SS also called corrosion-resistant steel or CRES when the alloy type and grade not specified (specifically in Aerospace industry). There are several grades and surface finishes of stainless steel to suit wide range of applications. Stainless steel is used where both steel mechanical properties are needed with increased values for corrosion resistance.

Stainless steel offers the following benefits for its users:

  • Stain and Corrosion Resistance

  • Heat and Fire Resistance

  • High strength-to-Weight Ratio

  • Recyclable

  • Appearance and Cleanliness

Several industries utilize stainless steel for wide range of applications including Aerospace, Automotive, General Engineering, Oil and Gas, High Tech and Medical.
